A little bit about the Stone Fireplaces…
Riley Stone Fireplaces are made out of Real Coral Stone. Our fireplaces are NOT
Cast Stone. The only similarity between our Real Coral Stone Fireplaces and a
Cast Stone Fireplace, is the price.
Even though we use real stone, our prices tend to be around the same level as
comparable Cast Stone Fireplaces. The best conversational pieces are always
originals made with natural materials. Imagine the look on their faces, when not
only are they amazed at the sheer natural beauty of the fireplace, but then they
realize that its made completely out of Natural Coral Stone. What is Coral
Stone? Coral Stone is a form of limestone.
Many marine animals, such as corals and shellfish, have skeletons or shells made
of calcium carbonate (CaCO3). When these animals die, their skeletons sink to
the seafloor and accumulate to form large beds of calcium carbonate.
As more and more layers form, their weight compresses and cements the layers at
the bottom, forming limestone. Details of the skeletons and shells are often
preserved in the limestone as fossils. The result after millions of years is
coral stone. I should mention that no Marine Life is damaged or disturbed during
our manufacturing process, since our quarry is above ground at this point. (It
was below sea level many many many years ago).
How is a Cast Stone Fireplace made?
A fireplaces made out of Cast Stone is made with a special concrete mixture that
is used to simulate the look and feel of real stone. This is then poured into
molds and allowed to dry.
The result is a Fireplaces that looks like the real thing, but is not. In fact,
depending on the process used to manufacture the fireplaces, it can be very thin
and light and does not look very real.
In fact, the whole process is a very “manufactured” process to it. Think
assembly line!
How is a Riley Stone Fireplace made?
The process involved in manufacturing a Coral Stone Fireplaces is a very long,
laborious, and delicate. The process starts when the 8’ x 4’ x 4’ blocks of
stone are brought to our manufacturing facility. Here we cut the slabs into more
manageable sizes. Following that, we start piece by piece, gluing everything
together with an amazingly strong bonding solution. It’s like a big giant
puzzle.
However, we’re not done there. Once the basic structure has been assembled, we
start hand carving with very small and precise tools each and every single
accent and shape you see on these fireplaces. Remember, every single detail is
hand carved, we do not use moldings of any kind (you can’t its real rock!) it’s
almost as if we were doing a sculpture! These Fireplaces will last a lifetime!
They are water resistant, sturdy, and heavy. If they get dirty, they are very
easy to clean!
Is it easy to setup?
You’ll need to spend about 45 minutes to put it together. Usually, the fireplace
will arrive in 4 pieces. The Fireplace’s Hearth, the mantel’s legs, and then the
mantel header. We’ll provide you with instructions as well as a “put it
together” kit that will include all the necessary epoxies and such to ensure a
secure setup.
Will my fireplace need to be vented?
Absolutely NOT. Our electric fireplaces do not need to be vented. They pose no
harm to you in the form of carbon monoxide poisoning.
Are the fireplaces safe?
Absolutely! No combustible energy sources are used to produce the flame, so you
won’t have to worry about carbon monoxide poisoning or oxygen depletion. The
glass of the firebox also remains cool to the touch, so you won’t have to worry
about your kids (if you have some) getting their little curios hands burned.
Are they easy to maintain?
YES. In fact, they require very little maintenance. Through the course of a
couple of years, you may have to change a light bulb or two on the back of the
unit. But other than that, the units are very maintenance free.
What makes a Riley Fireplace Different?
The Riley Electric Fireplace Series is in a league of it’s own.
All Riley Fireplaces come completely assembled. You won’t have to spend hours
assembling your fireplace only to find out when you’re done how flimsy it is!
Although it is more expensive for us to manufacture, store, and ship a
completely assembled fireplace, it is worth it.
You’ll benefit by having a solid wood fireplace that is built correctly and
firmly direct from the factory. Most other electric fireplaces on the market are
“knock down” meaning they come in several dozen pieces for YOU to put together.
This is done to save on warehousing, shipping, and manufacturing costs. By
buying a knock down fireplace, you’ll be sacrificing quality, and appearance.
What about the Finish?
Our fireplaces also feature a 12 Step Finishing Process. The fireplaces go
through a thorough 12 step finishing process that allows for the finish to be
absorbed into the wood to its fullest potential. Our 12 step process also
ensures that the finish is evenly and properly applied. This attention to
quality ensures that your fireplace will retain it’s finish for the longest
period possible.
Can I purchase the Fireplace without the Electric Insert?
You can purchase your Riley Fireplace with or without our Firebox. If you
prefer, you could use other fireboxes from other manufacturers as well.
